The team behind The CW’s Arrow is making a subtle play for some of Fringe’s leftover fan base this week, with the addition of Seth Gabel as new enemy the Count. Though at first glance it looks like a one-and-done baddie of the week, don’t count the Count out just yet.

Gabel set up some lofty comparisons with his take on the classic DC character, likening the character to Heath Ledger’s unhinged turn as the Joker in The Dark Knight. He’s going for creepy and imposing, regardless of physical stature.

Sci-fi fans are known for their devotion, and it’s not uncommon for us to go to almost insane lengths to get a peek at something early. The latest high-tech trick? Satellites.

The folks at Supernatural can't get enough of Felicia Day. The actress recently made her second guest appearance on the CW series in the Jan. 23 episode "LARP and the Real Girl," during which Sam and Dean reunited with Day's Charlie Bradbury.

Watchmen is considered to be the ultimate masterpiece of the comics medium, but that doesn't mean it's without its flaws.

The little-known comic title Guardians of the Galaxy may seem an out-of-the-box choice for a blockbuster, but it's just the beginning for Marvel's cinematic roster expansion.

We now know for sure that the Sorcerer Supreme himself, Doctor Strange, is joining Ant-Man as part of the studio's Phase Three of filmmaking.

Previously the only post-Avengers 2 film on the schedule - penned and directed by British talent Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) - Ant-Man's diminutive exploits were filling one of the two announced slots kicking off the third wave of Marvel adaptations.

Already dismissing concerns that the miniature hero will vanish into box office oblivion, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige explained to MTV the reasoning behind Phase Three's second selection.

"Doctor Strange, which I've been talking about for years, is definitely one of them (the films in Phase Three). He's a great, original character, and he checks the box off this criteria that I have: he's totally different from anything else we have, just like Guardians of the Galaxy," said Feige.

"He's totally different from anything we've done before, as is Ant-Man, which keeps us excited."

Although no specifics were given regarding the good Doctor's release date, casting or creative team, we know Ant-Man is set for release on November 6, 2015, with scientist Hank Pym the version of the hero doing the shrinking to insect proportions.

As for Strange, rumors of an appearance in both Thor 2 and Guardians could indicate a pre-Ant-Man release. Or they could mean nothing at all.

As the cast of X-Men: Days of Future Past begins to take shape, director Bryan Singer has teased a few more pieces of information about this hotly-anticipated project.

He told Empire: "It's epic. I don't think people realise how big this movie's going to be. We get to bring both casts together."

If that sounds worryingly ambitious, Singer assures fans: "We've cracked it in a way that it makes sense. I had a two-hour conversation with James Cameron about time travel, string theory, multiverses and all that.

"You have to create your rules and stick wtih them. That's why Terminator and Back To The Future work so well. And there are certain mechanisms in X-Men, certain powers, perceptions and characters, that make this possible."

Those who hope the original comic book story is respected needn't be concerned either. Singer says: "It has a lot of aspects of the comic. The actual comic of Days Of Future Past had a whole ton of stuff going on, so it's like any of these things; you have to distil it. But I think the fans will be pleased that some of the most exciting parts of Days Of Future Past are going to be connected to this movie."

And he ends the speculation that he might be tempted to ignore the X-Men films in which he was not involved: "I'm taking into account every movie - I'm not just grabbing my first two movies and First Class and smashing them together.

"I'm taking into account the entire universe as it's been laid out so far on the screen, and really respecting it and trying to work with that. People took things in various directions, so there's some clean-up. But ultimately I'm not just ignoring them either."

Singer says he will continue announcing the cast with tweets via his personal account, saying: "I'll be using Twitter as an avenue. I think Twitter is an amazing thing. Very often something gets out there in the rumour-sphere, and people start building up an impression of something that might not be right. So what I want to do is just little by little drop out whatever information is official."

X-Men: Days Of Future Past is due in cinemas on July 18, 2014, with filming set to start in April.

The cast of Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past tonight expanded by three names.

Singer tweeted that Anna Paquin, Ellen Page and Shawn Ashmore had joined the production, which starts filming in April.

Paquin played Rogue in the original trilogy alongside Ashmore's Iceman, while Page was cast as Kitty Pryde aka Shadowcat in Brett Ratner's X-Men: The Last Stand.

Singer said he was "very excited" to welcome the trio and, referring to the fact their characters were among the survivors in The Last Stand, added: "Thank you Brett Ratner for letting them live."

Already cast in the film are Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and Hugh Jackman, alongside X-Men: First Class actors Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult and Jennifer Lawrence.

Actors have been playing it cool over their involvement in the new film, with Ashmore quoted a week ago as saying he had "no idea" if he was returning. The same message came from January Jones who has not yet been confirmed and very recently said she didn't think she was in the film.

There's also no word yet on the inclusion of Halle Berry's Storm. Berry re-teams with X-Men co-star Hugh Jackman in the huge ensemble cast of Movie 43, out in UK cinemas this weekend.

Also in the cast of Movie 43 is Liev Schreiber, who appeared alongside Hugh in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. For more about Movie 43, see my earlier report here.

Martin Freeman says Sherlock is one of the best shows he has worked on.

The Hobbit actor stars in the BBC drama as Dr John Watson, alongside Benedict Cumberbatch as detective Sherlock Holmes.

"Sherlock is one of the best written things I'll ever do. If I live to 100, I won't do many things that are better written than Sherlock," he said.

"Same with The Office, which was a perfect half-hour of comedy for my taste. As a fan, I'd like it."

Martin admits he looks for both physical and intellectual challenges in roles.

"Dr John's quite physical because he's a soldier, so he's a man of action, he's handy with a gun and has been shot on the battlefield.

"When something is well written and you get to run around and fire guns and chase people but also have fantastic dialogue, that's when it's most pleasurable."

Sherlock will be back on BBC1 for a third three-part series in 2013.

Freeman - pictured above at the UK premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey with co-star Cate Blanchett and director Peter Jackson - returns to his Bilbo Baggins role in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, released on December 13, and then the final instalment, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, out on July 18, 2014.

Ray Winstone has revealed how he had initial concerns about the big screen version of Noah.

The British actor stars as nemesis Tubal-cain in Darren Aronofsky's Biblical epic opposite Russell Crowe as Noah.

"It's Noah's Ark - I laughed when it first came through. 'What am I going to do in Noah's Ark? It's a Biblical piece'.

"I laughed again when they said Russell Crowe's playing Noah - 'How can Russell play Noah?'" he admitted.

"But then I thought I've never seen Russell in a bad film. Then I read the script and I went, 'You know what? Lovely'. I turned up and had four wonderful months on a film with really clever people. I had a ball."

Noah is released on March 28, 2014.

The second G.I. Joe movie hits screens in a couple of months and to give you a taster of what it's like, Paramount Pictures, MGM and Skydance Productions have attached a four-minute 3D preview to the new fantasy action film Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.

The first look at G.I. Joe: Retaliation in IMAX 3D, RealD 3D and digital 3D cinemas will run throughout Hansel & Gretel's theatrical engagement.

Based on the best-selling Hasbro characters, this follow-up to the 2009 release G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra, sees the G.I. Joes not only fighting their mortal enemy Cobra, but forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardise their existence.

The film stars D.J. Cotrona, Byung-hun Lee, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Park, Jonathan Pryce, Ray Stevenson, Elodie Yung, Channing Tatum with Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson.

Directed by Jon M. Chu, and produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Brian Goldner of Hasbro, from a screenplay by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick, the movie will hit cinemas in the UK and Ireland on March 27, 2013.

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters stars Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton as Hansel and Gretel, who, after getting a taste for blood as children, become the ultimate vigilantes, hellbent on retribution.

Unknown to them, they have become the hunted, and must face an evil far greater than witches: their past. In addition to Renner and Arterton, the film features X-Men star Famke Janssen along with Peter Stormare.

It's written and directed by Tommy Wirkola and produced by Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Kevin Messick and Beau Flynn.

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters opens in the UK and Ireland on February 27.

Following his impressionistic look at the meaning of human existence in 2011's The Tree of Life, filmmaker Terrence Malick has broken his habit of vanishing from the movie scene for many years by bringing us To The Wonder.

Written and directed by Malick and arriving in UK cinemas on February 22, it stars Ben Affleck, Olga Kurylenko, Rachel McAdams and Javier Bardem.

A new poster (above) has been issued for the film, which is officially described as follows:

To The Wonder is the beautiful and acclaimed latest offering from Terrence Malick, the legendary director of The Tree of Life, Badlands and Days of Heaven.

The film is centred on Neil (Ben Affleck, Argo), a man who is torn between two loves: Marina (Olga Kurylenko, Quantum of Solace), the European woman who comes to United States to be with him, and Jane (Rachel McAdams, Midnight in Paris), the old flame he reconnects with from his hometown.

Neil's doubts about his life and loves are reflected in the crisis of faith experienced by Father Quintana (Javier Bardem, Skyfall), who only sees pain and the loss of hope in the world.

In To The Wonder, Malick explores how love and its many phases and seasons - passion, sympathy, obligation, sorrow, indecision - can transform, destroy, and reinvent lives.

Meanwhile, this Friday, January 25, sees the release of the comedy Movie 43, a series of interconnected short films following three kids as they search the internet to find the most banned movie in the world.

The directors of the project are Elizabeth Banks, Steven Brill, Steve Carr, Rusty Cundieff, James Duffy, Griffin Dunne, Peter Farrelly, Patrik Forsberg, James Gunn, Bob Odenkirk, Brett Ratner and Jonathan Van Tulleken.

Arriving in cinemas at the end of this year - on December 18, 2013, to be exact - is thriller The Two Faces of January.

A recently-released image from the production (see below) shows Daisy Bevan, daughter of Joely Richardson and granddaughter of Vanessa Redgrave, and Oscar Isaac.

Cast before the producers even knew she was a member of the famous acting dynasty, Daisy takes on the role of Lauren, a young ingénue who falls into the clutches of a small-time conman.

Billed as a stylish international thriller, The Two Faces of January stars Oscar nominee Viggo Mortensen (The Road, Eastern Promises, A History of Violence), Golden Globe nominee and Cannes Best Actress prize-winner Kirsten Dunst (Melancholia, Marie Antoinette, Spider-Man) and Oscar Isaac (Drive, The Bourne Legacy and the Coens' forthcoming Inside Llewyn Davis).

The Two Faces of January is based on the novel of the same name by Patricia Highsmith adapted for the screen by Academy Award nominee Hossein Amini (Drive, Snow White and the Huntsman, The Wings of the Dove).

The film is the directorial debut for Amini and is produced by Tom Sternberg (The Talented Mr. Ripley) Working Title's Tim Bevan & Eric Fellner and Robyn Slovo (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy).

Here's the official synopsis:

1962. A glamorous American couple, the charismatic Chester MacFarland (Mortensen) and his alluring younger wife Colette (Dunst), arrive in Athens by boat via the Corinthian Canal. While sightseeing at the Acropolis they encounter Rydal (Isaac), a young, Greek-speaking American who is working as a tour guide, scamming tourists on the side. Drawn to Colette's beauty and impressed by Chester's wealth and sophistication, Rydal gladly accepts their invitation to dinner.

However, all is not as it seems with the MacFarlands and Chester's affable exterior hides darker secrets. When Rydal visits the couple at their exclusive hotel, Chester presses him to help move the body of a seemingly unconscious man who he claims attacked him.

In the moment, Rydal agrees but as events take a more sinister turn he finds himself compromised and unable to pull himself free. His increasing infatuation with the vulnerable and responsive Colette gives rise to Chester's jealousy and paranoia, leading to a tense and dangerous battle of wits between the two men. Their journey takes them from Greece to Turkey, and to a dramatic finale played out in the back alleys of Istanbul's Grand Bazaar.

Earlier this month, sci-fi fans were stunned when storyboard artist Eric Canete indicated on Twitter (where else, these days?!) that Disney XD's Tron: Uprising - an animated sequel/prequel set between the two movies Tron and Tron: Legacy - would not be getting a second season.

As an online kerfuffle began to bubble about the show's cancellation, producer Edward Kitsis stepped in and clarified: "I don't know what the future [of Tron: Uprising] is now. I know at the present, I can say we need more viewers. The problem is, not enough people are watching it.

"At this point, I don't believe its fate has been decided. So if people keep watching, then there's still a chance. Please watch. Tell your friends."

Among the voice actors in Tron: Uprising is genre legend Bruce Boxleitner, reprising his role as Tron. So what does he have to say about the TV series, and will he be back for a third Tron movie?

BRUCE, WHAT'S YOUR VERDICT ON TRON: UPRISING?
It does not insult you, and I think for very small children it will go right over their heads, but visually, I think it's very exciting. I love the stylisation of it. I couldn't have had a better chin made for me. I have the greatest chin! I could go through a wall with that chin! What I love about it is Tron has aged as Bruce Boxleitner has aged. He's not the young Tron of the first movie; he's a more battle weary, older, experienced version, which I am of my former self!

IS TRON THE CHARACTER YOU'RE MOST RECOGNISED FOR?
It depends on the audience. Certainly if I'm at San Diego Comic-Con, or at London Expo, then for genre fans, but to a certain age group of women I'll always be Lee Stetson, the Scarecrow (in Scarecrow And Mrs King), and to Western fans I'm Luke Macahan from How The West Was Won. I've been very fortunate to do a lot of great genres, and play good characters in them. With the 30th anniversary of Tron, and with Tron: Uprising now reaching a whole new audience, I guess you could say Tron is the pre-eminent one now.

WILL WE GET TO SEE YOU IN TRON 3?
I don't know. They say yes, they say no. It's way above my pay grade to be able to tell you that. It's still a money-maker for them (Disney), and it's still a great franchise. They announced it at San Diego Comic-Con, so I'm not speaking out of school here, but it's in development, and development can take a while. We've got to get that creative team back again. I do know they're working on the story concepts and stuff like that.

IS IT YOUR 40TH YEAR ON TV THIS YEAR?
I think so. I try not to count!

AND YOU BECAME A STAR IN THE UK THANKS TO BRING 'EM BACK ALIVE
Yes, that was CBS's answer to Indiana Jones. Raiders Of The Lost Ark had been a big success, and it was that tried and true thing that television did. They tried to bring something similar to television, and we found this rugged old character out of the 1920s and 1930s. It was based on a real guy, Frank Buck. We kind of lifted him, brought him more towards World War Two era.

SOME SAY BABYLON 5 WENT ON ONE SERIES TOO LONG
I always thought the opposite. I thought it could have gone on quite a long time. I would get into big disagreements with our creator (J Michael Straczynski) about it. I thought he was kind of shooting himself in the foot, but that was the way he wanted to do it, and ultimately it probably turned out to be the best thing. He wanted to do the five seasons; a five-year arc, and every season we never knew if we were coming back. Even by the end of the fourth season, we were convinced we weren't coming back, and then at the last minute, we got a reprieve.

AND YOU HAD THE CLASSIC LINE, 'GET THE HELL OUT OF MY GALAXY!'
Yes! How many people get to say that? Not even my neighbourhood, my house. My galaxy!

DID YOU KNOW YOUR NAMESAKE TRON CHARACTER ALAN BRADLEY WAS IN THE BRITISH SOAP CORONATION STREET?
I've heard of Coronation Street, but I'll be damned! I've come over to the UK so many times in the last 20 years, mainly due to Babylon 5 because I did a lot of the big fan conventions. We had a huge following there (the UK). We were treated so well, it was amazing.

FINALLY, IS THERE ANY TRUTH YOU'RE IN UPCOMING PROJECT GUARDIANS OF LUNA?
It's a non-existent project. If it happened, I certainly didn't do it. I think it's a wish list that somebody puts out there on the web. I would love to have done it, by the way. If it's still being done, I'm still available!

Sci-fi show Fringe has just aired its final episode but you can relive the drama and mystery with a new book coming out later this month.

Warner Bros Consumer Products, Warner Bros Television Group and Fox Broadcasting Company have brought September's Notebook into our world. It will be released in hardcover by Titan Books on January 29.

In the penultimate Fringe episode The Boy Must Live, the Observer called September (guest star Michael Cerveris) revealed to Walter Bishop (John Noble) that he had been keeping a notebook of all his observations - and it's now being published as a keepsake for fans.

Fringe executive producer/showrunner J.H. Wyman said: "We couldn't have picked a better framework for this book than the Observers. Where we went this season is ultimately so Observer-heavy and it reveals some things that are really mind-blowing.

"We wanted to include the notebook in this upcoming episode, as it encompasses September's journey from beginning to end. The fact that we are able to share it with the fans, after the episode airs, is truly exciting. September's writing exhibits what he admires most about the human spirit's most beautiful quality - hope."

September chronicled not only the main characters' personal stories but also elements of the show's mythology, including the FBI's Fringe Division, Massive Dynamic, the Machine, the alternate universe and the Amber timeline.

Fringe: September's Notebook is the first comprehensive guide to the show's mythology over all five seasons. It includes exclusive photos and concept art, and reveals quirks and little-known facts about each character, insight into fringe science and much more.

Every word, sketch, photo, and official document was compiled under the guidance of series executive producer/showrunner J.H. Wyman and former executive producer Jeff Pinkner, with contributions from the Fringe production department.

Authors Tara Bennett and Paul Terry (who also co-wrote the official Lost Encyclopedia) worked with the show's production team for more than a year to develop the book.

Fringe has also spawned two six-part comic book series and an alternate reality game.

Hollywood's upcoming superpowered ensembles don't just include Avengers 2, Guardians of the Galaxy and Dark Universe. There's also the hotly-anticipated new X-Men film, which begins production in April.

And as we move towards the start of filming on X-Men: Days of Future Past, speculation continues as to which other casting announcements will be made.

So far, we know that X-Men: First Class actors James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult will be joined by original trilogy stars Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and Hugh Jackman. Obviously, there are more names yet to be revealed.

Jackman told the Daily Mail: "You wouldn't have enough room on the page after you've listed them all. Every other actor who's ever put on a superhero uniform will be in it.

"There's an element of time travel and, naturally, it will be action-packed," he added.

One actor who says he hasn't yet joined the project is Shawn Ashmore, who played Bobby Drake aka Iceman. He told the Huffington Post: "Honestly, at this point I have no idea. What's exciting is Bryan Singer's back, which is amazing. He was amazing to work with.

"I would love to come back and play Bobby again. I played the part three times, I got to grow up playing that part, which is incredible. It's so rare. If it happens, i would love to play that part. The moving is happening, so I have to wait and see how it all comes together."

Mark Millar, who's Twentieth Century Fox's creative consultant for its Marvel Comics adaptations, told SciFi Now he's confident this massive undertaking will all come together perfectly.

He said: "I know how it's done, so I'm not worried. I've been in all these meetings and talked about it at length with everyone, and everything I hear sounds incredibly mainstream. It's no more difficult than The Terminator, or whatever, there's one element of time jump in it, but other than that it's absolutely fine.

"It's hard for me to say without actually spoiling the movie but [producer Matthew] Vaughn - the guy who made the $28million Kick-Ass look like a $78 million movie, you know? - I completely trust him when it comes to stuff like that. He knows exactly what he's doing, and Simon Kinberg has done a phenomenal job on the screenplay with him so it's worked out really well."

On the return of Bryan Singer to the director's chair, Millar said: "It's incredibly exciting. Even just as a fan. The first X-Men really launched the wave of superhero movies we've been loving for the past decade after some horrific stuff in the 90s so having him back in the world he started just feels right.

"X2, I think, is one of the greatest superhero movies ever made. The idea of this guy being back in the fold and planning something as ambitious as this picture can only be good news."

And he adds that, despite Jackman's earlier teasing about a huge cast, some of the previous films suffered from having too many undeveloped characters.

"I remember when I was writing Ultimate X-Men and people were saying 'I want to see Gambit, I want to see Rogue," recalls Millar. "Everybody has a list, and at first you think 'I'm going to please everyone' and then you realise you're pleasing no-one by just throwing in 10-second cameos, you know.

"I think that was the major problem with that first Wolverine movie and X-Men 3. Bryan Singer did such an incredible job with that original movie - it's quite like Star Wars in that there's Episodes IV, V and VI, and we've got the Matthew Vaughn prequels, and I love that - I love the fact that it simplifies so well. X-Men in the 90s was so convoluted in comic-book terms, and Bryan drove a knife through it and make it work and simplified the whole thing.

"I'd like to have that same approach and if we are bringing in a character then it shouldn't just be for a trailer or to get a picture up online, get people excited, it should actually have a point in the story.

"The trick with that is to try and keep the cast relatively small so that you actually care about them."

X-Men: Days of Future Past is set for release in July 2014.

Studios are busy assembling several superhero team movies including the sequel to Marvel's 2012 blockbuster The Avengers, which was released as Avengers Assemble in the UK.

Although no details of the plot are known, a release date of May 1, 2015, has been booked. In addition, director Joss Whedon has told MTV he is expecting to finish the script in a couple of months.

On how he plans to follow up the first film, he said: "Don't go bigger; go deeper. All of these people have met, so you have that out of the way. Now you can spend your time just digging in - and by digging in, I mean with a scalpel, to cause pain."

Marvel is also working on an adaptation of its cosmic comic Guardians of the Galaxy and, according to ScreenDaily, director James Gunn (pictured above) will be filming it at Shepperton Studios in the UK over the summer.

No casting has yet been announced, despite a flurry of names mentioned as contenders for the lead role of Star-Lord.

Warner Bros is also planning some supergroup action, with rumours of a Justice League movie on the way. In addition, a more supernatural counterpart is being developed, based on the DC comic Justice League Dark.

Guillermo del Toro has confirmed he is developing the project, called Dark Universe and previously rumoured to be called Heaven Sent.

"I'm working on it," del Toro told IGN. "I'm writing the outline and we're already in talks with a writer. A very, very good writer.

"People are probably going to be happy with who we have chosen. He accepted. I've been courting this writer, who I think is the perfect guy for this job. We're doing it. Hopefully it will happen."

The line-up will include Swamp Thing, The Demon, John Constantine, Deadman, The Spectre, Zatara and Zatanna.

The filmmaker insisted it wasn't triggered by Marvel's blockbuster success: "The movement for this happened before [The Avengers]. They were already galvanised to launch Justice League and make their universe cohesive. They are very, very confident with what they have.

"They are now feeling they have two pillars. Batman and Superman - there's a foundation they can build on."
