How are we doing?

I think it may be a good idea for us to discuss ~in writing~ what Tony talked about on Skype the other night.

Could we have a break down as to how things 'should' go, and highlight some problem areas?

For one, Im not at all happy with myself. I think I sound terrible, and on the second podcast, I sounded half asleep, which I probably was. Next time I will definitely have more commitment and get some proper rest before hand. I can only imagine how crap it will be with me being a little pissed and tired on the third podcast.

I wonder if we couldn't do more than one take on a conversation. That way it might be easier to edit. If Ryan and I are talking about something on the Skype side, perhaps we should have that conversation again so that we don't interrupt each other. If we know more or less what direction the conversation is going it shouldn't make it sound fake, and should make the editing a lot easier for Mike and Sam.

Also, from now on Im not going to say 'ja' and 'mmmm'. I heard myself agreeing in the background to a lot of what was being said, and that was extremely irritating.

Any other thoughts?

Re:How are we doing?

Actually, I didn't think it was that irritating!

The second show was VERY difficult to edit and I'm not sure that the third will be much better.

Afterwards, I was chatting with Mike and found he was having some severe problems with the technology (his PC is knackered) and that contributed mostly to the problems.

We can either have direction from one of us who tries to keep the show rolling at a fast pace (and cut people off before they have fully explored a topic), or be a lot more relaxed and maybe only have a couple of topics and go into them in much more detail.

We're still learning how to do this stuff, and I'm certainly not saying that we shouldn't change anything. You were fine Rory, your voice added a certain relaxed and laid back tone to the show.

I'm happy to just let things roll next week. We could try the one or two topics thing again and see how it goes. What do you think?

Re:How are we doing?

I will freely admit and agree that my two minute news segment was boring to watch. I totally understand what you mean about the Sypers talking too long without any visuals, and how that is a bad thing.

And it didn't help that I was obviously reading the news... And for that reason I think well thought out and written scripts are a bad idea. It needs to be relaxed.

I like the idea of having more independent sadcasts, review this and that sort of thing instead of one giant sadcast every few weeks. But I don't think we should do away with the group sadcast all together. I'll try to get a review of Lost and or Alias out to you guys in the next week or so.

Re:How are we doing?

Hmmm. Not sure you guys fully appreciate the role that Mike and Sam have. It's thier job (to a certain extent) to make the show more interesting. For instance, Mike is working on the idea of animated pieces to help with parts of the show where the skypers are on. A well prepared segment is really important - even if it sounds like you are reading from a page (and it didn't sound like that much!).

The SadCAST review of Stalker was done by me in a day (a few hours really), it's not difficult to do provided you have the material to support (ie. clips). the way I'd like to play it is that the edited version of the piece is emailed to me and I'll top and tail it with opening sequence and end sequence.

What do you think?
