What ever you do, don't let him pick a name until you find out what it means. I went to school once with a girl who's first and second names were old englishy and meant stuff like fair and white. Which prompted a bit of mirth around the lunch table since she was a dark italian with brown/black hair. ;D

The boy's name Duncan is pronounced DUN-kin. It is of Scottish and Gaelic origin, and its meaning is "dark warrior; brown fighter." A royal name in early Scotland. Literary: in Shakespeare's "Macbeth", Duncan is king of Scotland.

A "Gurney" is a stretcher with wheels.

I'd stick with Duncan.

Dune names aren't all that bad. There are some mundane names like: Paul, Duncan, Jessica, (Alia, Miles, <- possibly exotic depending on your locale)
Some more exotic names like: Leto, Vladimir, Chani, Sheeana, Wellington, Irulan (and some of these are regional normal too)
And some "gonna get picked on" names like: Thufir, Hwi, Gurney, Ghanima, Stilgar, Maud'Dib and anything Tlielaxu

Paul is nice, but it's my dad's name....so hubby wouldn't pick it right there :)

I've got Hunters in my bag - I'm a bit leery of reading it cos ... well... the son's other books are the suxxors, IMO. So... is it any good? (more to the point, if I think the orig. series is the bees frellin' knees, am I gonna be able to stand reading Hunters?)

Hedgehog has a nice review of the book on one of the Sadcasts...IMO it is about 2x the size it needs to be and spends a lot of obvious time setting up for the next and supposedly last book.....but it is a quick read, so why not?
