OK, wierd.. the thread about the problems has just vanished...

Basically, in any forum which is moderated by the moderators group when you try to reply to a thread it times out. It tends to create multiple entries in the posts tables but does not update the toppic and forum indexes so the new posts aren't visible unless you actually open the topic. If you try to create a new topic
the post itself is created in the database (multiple times) but the topic and forum indexes are again not updated so there is no way of actually viewing the post.

Since it only seems to affect the moderators group, or at least is worse in forums moderated by that group, I have temporarily removed those permissions so at least people can use the forums.
