I’ve visited the site for quite a time now and have recently began posting on the sadboard but who/what is sadgeezer? I know sadgeezer is a member [and moderator for most rooms] but how can i find out all about the site? who started the site, when did it start, what was it like in the beginning. all these questions and no answers. I feel like I’m in the bloody Matrix.

can someone help me out. I hate to not know **** !

As mary beth pointed out, most of your questions can be answered on the Intro Page. However, if you are REALLY interested in how the site started then here goes:

It started as a half-joke when a dude at work challenged me to design a website (I was an IT project manager at the time so I had to take up the challenge).

I was pretty keen about a show called Babylon 5 (it was the fave show of a girl I was dating), so I decided to do a simple guide. The girl packed me in (coz I was boring) and as I started researching the guide I became more and more interested in other non-formulea TV sci fi.

I can’t stand Star Trek NG or DS9 and can only watch Voyager because of 7 of 9 (and I really am embarrassed to say that). But other shows like Red Dwarf, Aeon Flux etc. just screemed for review since there were very few sites at the time that would provide the full service (ie. review, character bio’s, culture reviews and other speciality bits likle the purity test).

It’s grown and grown until it is almost unmanageable. Without the help and support of the moderators of SadBOARD, I’d prolly have packed it in ages ago.

I set-up and maintain the site form my spare bedroom in a flat in Preston, Lancashire, England and my newly married wifey, NewKate (wow, not so new any more – two years aniversary last week!) is not always impressed at my devotion to the site.

The SadGeezers Guide has changed radically over the last 4 years and now boasts the largest LEXX, Red Dwarf, Aeon Flux, Hitch Hikers Guide (but not Babylon 5) guides on the Internet. It has the largest dedicated sci fi directory on the net (SadBOARD) and gets between 2500 and 6000 visitors per day (depending on the day of the week).

SadBOARD is relatively new in it’s current format and it is now the most popular part of the site (most page hits). In fact the BOARD is so successful that in the next big development of the site I will most likely pass on much of the control to moderators and others who want to help out.

People Like thefrey, FX, marybeth are producing lots more stuff than I could handle (such as the LEXX and Andromeda interviews etc.) and the venerable Headgehog who manages to find such interesting news stories are the sort of people who will take the site to the next level.

Most people think that sadgeezer.com is a professional site (until they read the reviews ๐Ÿ˜‰ but it isn’t, there are two items of income that are derived from the site. the first is the merchandising (not mine, owned by the service provider that lets me use the webserver. I recieve a small comission on each membership and item sold) and the advertising banners which have netted me a collosal 73 pounds in the last 12 months.

Lets see, what else… Actually that’s about all I can think of. Hope that answers some of your questions.

I feel like a right TWAT. I always notice the image at the top left of the site as it loads but never actually read the text.

    Easily done

And to be honest, I feel like a right twat sometimes too. Hell I even feel like a left twat. But best of all, I prefer a twat on either side… erm… I’d better stop before the wife see’s this…. or even worse, marybeth may edit my post !!

No way! erm… well, maybe a little way. This particular girl (also called Katie by the way (same as the wife – but completely different) was hugely unsupportive.

and we should leave it at that!

btw Sadgeezer that is a really cool story about the origins of this site. maybe when you get the updated site up and running you will expand on the original intro.

i wish hubby and i had a cool story like that. but we met the old-fashion way, in a bar. LOL
